La Paz is one of the 18 departments in Honduras in Central America . His name is Spanish and means "peace" when translated.

The capital of the department is the city of the same name, La Paz . La Paz has an external border with El Salvador in the south .

The department was founded in 1869 by splitting off from the Comayagua department .
