Francisco Morazán is one of the 18 departments in Honduras ( Central America ). It is named after a hero of the first half of the 19th century who was important for the Central American and Honduran self-image.
The capital of the department is Tegucigalpa . It is also the state capital. Until 1943 the department was also called Tegucigalpa , but was then renamed after José Francisco Morazán Quezada - the former President of the Central American Confederation .
