Ocotepeque is one of the 18 departments in Honduras in Central America .

The capital of the department is the city of Nueva Ocotepeque , which was destroyed by a flood in 1934 and then had to be rebuilt. Ocotepeque is located in the far west of Honduras and has an external border with El Salvador and Guatemala . In Ocotepeque there are several thermal springs that are also used for tourism.

The department was founded in 1906 by splitting off from the Copán department .
