Yoro is one of the 18 departments in Honduras in Central America .
The capital of the department is the city of the same name, Yoro.
The department was founded on June 28, 1825 as one of the original administrative units after the independence of Honduras. It received its current form between 1881 and 1894 when parts of Yoro were split up into the newly founded departments of Colón and Cortés .
The main economic factors in Yoro are the cultivation of coffee, bananas and livestock.
