Valle is one of the 18 departments in Honduras in Central America . It is named after the statesman José Cecilio Díaz del Valle .

The capital of the department is the city of Nacaome . Valle lies on the Gulf of Fonseca and has an external border with El Salvador . Several smaller islands in the Gulf of Fonseca belong to the department.

The department was founded in 1893 by a spin-off from the Choluteca department .
