Mercury Marine

Mercury Marine is a manufacturer of outboard motors under the Mercury brand and inboard motors under the MerCruiser brand .

Company history

The company was founded in 1939 and is now a subsidiary of the Brunswick Corporation (USA). It was named by its founder Carl Kiekhaefer after the Roman messenger of the gods Mercurius (English Mercury ).

During the Second World War, the company also produced two-man chainsaws and became the largest manufacturer. Mercury Marine is now a leading manufacturer of marine engines .

Outboard motors

According to the rules of the "EPA" and the "Recreational Craft Directive", new boat engines must a. comply with certain exhaust gas limit values. This is not possible with conventional carburetor technology in two-stroke engines. Mercury manufactures both two-stroke gasoline injection (EFI) and four-stroke engines.

  • 4-cylinder in-line engines (four-stroke) with 30/37/44/56/67/86/101/112/130/149 kW (40/50/60/75/90/115/135/150/175/200 PS )
  • 6-cylinder V-engines (60 °) (two-stroke) with 130/147/168/187/224 kW (175/200/225/250/300 PS)
  • 6-cylinder in-line engines (four-stroke) with 149/168/186/205/263 kW (200/225/250/275/350 PS)

The 2.5 liter two-stroke engine is used in Formula 1 motorboat racing.

MerCruiser offers both inboard engines and sterndrives (brand name: Sterndrive).

Engine program 2009

  • 4-cylinder in-line engines (petrol) with 101 kW (135 PS)
  • 6-cylinder V-engines (petrol) with 142/164 kW (190/220 PS)
  • 8-cylinder V-engines (petrol) with 164 to 895 kW (220 to 1200 PS)

Since May 2012 Mercury Marine has been selling the SDI and TDI boat engines from Volkswagen worldwide in an exclusive partnership with Volkswagen .
