Marie-Françoise Roy (born April 28, 1950 in Paris ) is a French mathematician who deals with real algebraic geometry .

Marie-Francoise Roy 2009 in Oberwolfach

She studied at the École normal supérieure de Jeunes Filles and then from 1973 was assistant professor at the University of Paris-Nord . She received her doctorate in 1981 and then spent two years at Niamey University in Niger . In 1985 she became a professor at the University of Rennes I .

Roy works on real algebraic geometry, specifically the theory of the real spectrum and then on the complexity of algorithms in real algebraic geometry.

In 1987 she co-founded a French society for women in mathematics Femmes et Mathématiques and in 1986 the European Woman Mathematicians . Roy is also president of an organization that supports solidarity activities between the Nigerien community Dan-Kassari and the French community Cesson-Sévigné . From 2004 to 2007 she was President of the Société Mathématique de France .
