Marie-Nicole Horthemels

Marie-Nicole Horthemels (born October 17, 1689 in Paris ; † May 6, 1745 there ), was a French engraver and etcher .

Her father was the bookseller and publisher Daniel Horthemels, who immigrated from the Netherlands . He married Marie-Anne Cellier , the daughter of a bookseller. Marie-Nicole Horthemels had four siblings, of whom Marie-Anne , Louise-Madeleine and Frederic also became engravers. Her brothers Denis and Daniel II became booksellers and publishers. Her godfather was the painter Hyacinthe Rigaud .

In 1722 she married the painter Alexis Simon Belle . From then on she mainly implemented his works as engravings. However, she continued to sign with her maiden name. In the same year her son Clément Belle was born, whom she also taught. She also painted in the style of her husband and, after his death in 1734, completed several portraits of personalities that he had begun, who were at the coronation of Louis XV. were present in Reims. She also made portrait prints.

Portraits of Melchior de Polignac , the young Charles Edward Stuart and Henri Pons de Thiard de Bissy are particularly well documented . She also created a portrait of Liselotte von der Pfalz .
