The Marienhospital Herne, clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum , is a hospital in Herne . Like four other hospitals, it is subordinate to the St. Elisabeth Group .

history

The house was founded in 1883 on Schulstrasse / Marienstraße. It initially had 28 beds; there were two stations for surgical and internal medicine. Three sisters from Saint Vincent de Paul in Paderborn took care of the care. In 1902 an extension was built on Marienstraße; the number of beds rose to 180. After an expansion in 1925, there were 302 beds. In 1931 an intensive care unit was opened. The new building on Hölkeskampring was inaugurated on September 29, 1966. He had 457 beds.

In 2020 it became known that the home of a Muslim student at the School of Health had banned the wearing of a headscarf during an internship.

Facility

It has a total of 575 beds and 1,484 employees. Every year, 25,200 in-patients and day-care patients and 47,300 out-patients are treated (as of 2016). The St. Elisabeth Group is one of the largest employers in the city.

The Marien Hospital Herne is involved in the Bochum model (especially surgery and internal medicine ) and is now part of the University Hospital of the Ruhr University Bochum . Thus, in addition to patient care, medical students from the Ruhr University Bochum are also trained at Marien Hospital Herne.

Other specialist clinics are surgery (departments of hand, vascular, trauma and abdominal surgery), cardiology, nephrology with its dialysis department, gastroenterology with an interdisciplinary abdominal center, oncology, radiation therapy, radiology, the clinic for pain therapy, the Gynecology with integrated obstetrics, urology, the geriatric clinic.
