history

Both the Marienhospital Papenburg and the St. Marienstift in Aschendorf were founded in 1898, when Thuin religious sisters took over patient care together with resident doctors.

The Marienhospital Papenburg Foundation was established over the next ten years, as well as its sovereign approval by Kaiser Wilhelm II. In 1913, the building was expanded by eight hospital rooms and in 1924 by a new operating room and an X-ray machine.

A nursing school has been part of the house since 1953 . Until the 1960s, the Marienhospital was restructured from an affiliated hospital to a hospital providing basic and standard care with main departments, as well as the establishment of an affiliated children's nursing school.

In the 1990s, two more bed floors were added, the child and adolescent psychiatry opened , a few years later a day clinic for child and adolescent psychiatry was set up and the Marienhospital Papenburg and the St. Marienstift Orthopedic Clinic in Aschendorf merged to form the Marienkrankenhaus Papenburg-Aschendorf GmbH. In addition, a medical center was built at the Marienkrankenhaus in the 1990s.

In 2010, the conversion of the former St. Marienstift Clinic in Aschendorf was completed for use by child and adolescent psychiatry. Since 2011 the Marienkrankenhaus Papenburg-Aschendorf GmbH has been jointly sponsored with the St. Bonifatius Hospitalgesellschaft Lingen eV and the Marien Hospital Papenburg Aschendorf Foundation. The following year, a new cardiac catheter laboratory with hybrid technology was converted and set up in Papenburg, as well as a day clinic for child and adolescent psychiatry at the Leer location . One year later, the renovation and establishment of an integrative children's ward with intensive care units for newborns, premature babies and sick newborns, as well as the establishment of a geriatric department, were completed. The former Marienkrankenhaus has been called Marien Hospital Papenburg Aschendorf since 2014 and its work is based on the motto “connected to people”.
