The Marienkirche in Bytom ( Beuthen OS ) is a Roman Catholic parish church of the parish of St. Maria. The brick Gothic monument is the oldest church in the city, its construction dates back to the 13th century. It is located north of the ring and has a south tower. In the Marienkirche church services are held in Polish and German.

history

The construction of the originally late Romanesque church began in 1231. A keystone above the organ vault bears the dates 1231/1257. In the 14th century the church was expanded in the Gothic style. In 1530 the newly built church tower was completed. From the 1560s to 1632 the parish church was Protestant. In 1675 a fire destroyed the church's furnishings .

From 1851 to 1857 the Marienkirche was redesigned and received neo-Gothic elements. In addition, the church tower was raised. Extensive renovations took place from 1935 to 1938 and 1957 and 1967.

With the fall of the Wall , church services have been held in German again since 1990. The services for the German minority take place every Saturday. In 2009, extensive renovation work began on the outer facade of the church and the renewal of the church windows.
