Hans von Flatow

Friedrich Albert Hans von Flatow (born February 18, 1852 in Berlin ; † February 1, 1924 ) was a Prussian infantry general and director of the War Academy .

Life

He was the son of the later Prussian general of the infantry Friedrich von Flatow (1820-1892) and his wife Charlotte Albertine, née Woltersdorff (1816-1887).

Military career

After attending grammar school in Wittenberg , Flatow joined the 6th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 95 of the Prussian Army in Gotha on April 1, 1870 as a three-year-old volunteer . With the regiment he took part in the war against France in 1870/71 , was promoted to second lieutenant on January 5, 1871 and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for his achievements . From November 15, 1874 to September 30, 1878 Flatow was adjutant of the 1st Battalion and was then commanded for further training for three years at the War Academy. In the meantime, on December 14, 1878, transferred to the 1st Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 26 and promoted to Prime Lieutenant on December 7, 1879 , Flatow was ordered to serve with the General Staff on April 18, 1882 . This command was extended for another year and he was then transferred to the Army General Staff on April 15, 1884. Promoted to captain on July 12, 1884 , Flatow was promoted to General Staff of the XV on October 23, 1884 . Army Corps transferred. This was followed from December 23, 1886 to September 18, 1888 an assignment with the General Staff of the 29th Division in Freiburg im Breisgau . He was then transferred to the 1st Hannoversche Infantry Regiment No. 74 with the appointment of company commander . Transferred to the General Staff of the 20th Division , Flatow was reassigned to the General Staff of the Army on September 21, 1889 and promoted to Major on November 19, 1889 . From September 20, 1890 to February 6, 1891 he was then active in the General Staff of the X Army Corps and was then transferred back to the General Staff. As a lieutenant colonel on March 19, 1896, he was promoted to chief of the 3rd division and was promoted to colonel on May 24, 1898 . With the rank and fees of brigade commander, Flatow was promoted to major general on November 14, 1901 . On April 1, 1905, he was entrusted with the management of the director of the War Academy. As deputy chairman, Flatow was elected to the board of the military society in October 1905 . He was promoted to Lieutenant General on December 19, 1905, and was appointed director of the War Academy. In this position he was also President of the Study Commission. Under awarding of the character as General of Infantry Flatow was on July 7, 1909 with the statutory board for disposition made.

In subsequent recognition of his many years of service, Flatow received the Commander-in-Chief with the Star of the Order of the Württemberg Crown and Wilhelm II awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle, 1st class with oak leaves.
