St. Marien in Drennhausen

The Marienkirche or St. Marien is an Evangelical Lutheran parish church in Drennhausen . It belongs to the member community Drennhausen in the overall parish Elbmarsch in the parish of Winsen.

history

The church was founded from Marschacht because Drennhausen was too far away and often inaccessible due to the water levels. From 1308 a chapel already existed as a foundation of the Hached pastor Johannes. The first written mention of today's building goes back to 1347. The church was consecrated to the Virgin Mary , which was remembered by a weather vane and a bell until 1704 .

At the end of the Thirty Years' War were sacristy , bridal house and the roof on and rebuilt. The first entries in the "Drennhauser Kirchenbuch" were made in 1667. Among other things, this shows that the Drennhauser church was used as a "fort on the Elbe" during the French era and was secured by a deep moat and palisade. After the wars of liberation , the church was redesigned in a classical style around 1817.

The wooden bell tower typical of the region was dilapidated in 1850 and replaced by a stone building. In 1857 an Eduard Meyer organ was built into the church.

Furnishing

Image window

From 1915 to 1917 the Ferdinand Müller glass painting company in Quedlinburg made picture windows. They show::

  • The Christmas story ("Peace on Earth!")
  • Jesus' baptism by John ("See, this is God's Lamb!")
  • The risen One and Maria Magdalena ("Maria! Rabuni!")
  • Jesus and the Emmaus disciples ("Lord, stay with us!")
  • Jesus and the sinking Peter on the lake ("Lord, help me!")

additional

The pulpit altar is designed so that the pastor preaches from the altar wall. The Eye of Providence is depicted above the final triangle of the altar wall . The inventory of the church also includes the altar candlestick (1747), a host box (1726) and a cup of communion (1859).

After the tower was equipped with a communion bell in 1881 (come, because everything is ready) , two more bells were cast in 1966 by the Rincker bell and art foundry . The larger bell bears the inscription: I am the way and the truth and the life. Parish of Drennhausen 1966 , the smaller bell: Faith, love, hope. Parish of Drennhausen 1966 .

The organ was extensively overhauled in 1987/88. In 2017 there was a major renovation of the church due to moisture damage .
