Marija Jurić Zagorka
Marija Jurić Zagorka (born March 2, 1873 Negovec near Vrbovec , † November 29, 1957 in Zagreb ) was a Croatian writer and the first professional journalist in Croatia.

She worked for the magazine "Obzor" (Rundschau) and later published the first Croatian women's magazine "Ženski list" (women's newspaper) and "Hrvatica" (The Croatian woman). She fought against the social oppression, the "Hungarianization" and "Germanization" of Croatian society, as well as for the rights of women. Her mentor in literary matters was Josip Juraj Strossmayer , who encouraged her to write.
