Marilyn Bliss

Marilyn Bliss (* 1954 in Iowa ) is an American composer.

Bliss studied at Coe College and the University of Pennsylvania . Her teachers included George Crumb , George Rochberg , Jacob Druckman , Jerry Owen, and Harvey Sollberger . Her works include compositions for solo instruments, chamber music, vocal and orchestral works. She received commissions from the Haydn-Mozart Chamber Orchestra , the Philadelphia Art Alliance , the Powell Quartet , the flautists James Zellers and James Pellerite, and the National Flute Association . a. awarded the Charles Ives Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters , the Young Composers Prize from ASCAP, and fellowships from the Composers Conference and the New York Foundation for the Arts . She has been President of New York Women Composers since 1992 .
