Marilyn Strathern

Dame Ann Marilyn Strathern (born March 6, 1941 ) is a British anthropologist and former professor at the William Wyse Chair of Social Anthropology at Cambridge University . A large part of her research deals with analyzes of gender relations in different cultures (especially in Papua New Guinea ), as well as the ethnological handling of gifts.

Life

Strathern was a professor at the Australian National University in Canberra and at the University of California, Berkeley . From 1985 to 1993 she taught anthropology at the University of Manchester , from 1994 to 2009 she researched and taught at the William Wyse Chair in Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge . Henrietta Moore was her successor .

Strathern is divorced and has three children.
