Marina Baranova (born August 5, 1981 in Charkiw ) is a German- Ukrainian pianist and composer .

biography

Marina Baranova was born in the Ukraine into a family of musicians. At the age of five, Marina Baranova passed an entrance examination at the music high school for gifted children in her hometown of Kharkiv. At the age of 11, the pianist won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Ukraine, which was followed by her first concert tour through Finland.

Marina Baranova moved to Germany in the late 1990s to study with Wladimir Krainew at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media . During her studies, Baranova received at least one internationally recognized award every year. Today Marina Baranova gives concerts in Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Benelux, Poland, Ukraine, Israel, Latin America and Thailand.

Performances and concerts

With her passionate interpretations, she won over audiences and press at festivals such as the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Festival, the Vienna Music Week, the Merano Classic Festival , the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Granada Piano Festival, the Schumann Festival Week in Leipzig, and the Beethoven Night in Heidelberg and at the Schumann Festival in Bonn .

She has appeared as a soloist with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern, the Württemberg Philharmonic, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Quartet, the Slaska Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bromberger Rundfunk Orchester, the Romanian Bacau Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jerusalem Strings in Yad Vashem, Israel. Her Berlin debut was recorded by Deutschland Radio and her concert in Trier's Kurfürstlichen Palais was broadcast on SWR 2. Joachim Kaiser wrote about her debut CD with the works of Robert Schumann : "Marina Baranova: an excellent Schumann interpreter!"

In addition to classical performance practice, she is interested in cross-border projects: The NDR hired her for the improvisation project "Auschwitz. Talking is forbidden, silence impossible". It can refer to a large number of world premieres, including "Stellar" for guitar (Frank Bungarten), old keyboard instruments (Marina Baranova) and electronics (Damian Marhulets). Another electro-acoustic composition by Damian Marhulet's "Triangulation" was performed at the Beethovenfest Bonn. Both compositions were dedicated to Marina Baranova.

She performed as a chamber musician with Giora Feidman in the Wiener Konzerthaus with the program "Jüdische Lieder und Schubert Lieder". Shortly thereafter, she was invited to a CD production, where she recorded some compositions as a guest soloist with Giora Feidman. The collaboration with the Klezmer legend continues in the “Fantasy” trio with Giora Feidman and percussionist Murat Coskan.

Marina Baranova is also active as a composer. Their latest CD "Firebird" contains exclusively their own compositions. This CD, which she recorded together with Murat Coşkun (oriental percussion instruments), was released in November 2013 on the label "Pianissimo Music" and is distributed by "Edel".
