Bonn Schumann Festival

The Schumann Festival in Bonn serves to commemorate Robert Schumann , who spent the last years of his life, marked by illness, in Endenich near Bonn, in the sanatorium of Dr. Franz Richarz , today's Schumannhaus Bonn , died and is buried in the old cemetery in Bonn with his wife Clara Schumann .

The two-week festival , which has been taking place in the Bonn district of Endenich since 1998 , was initiated by Andreas Etienne and Markus Schuck . It includes various cultural institutions, churches, companies and associations around the Schumannhaus in Bonn. Contact and coordination are carried out by the “Schumannhaus Bonn eV Association”. The venues include the Clara Schumann Gymnasium , Bonn Harmonie , the Evangelical Luther Church , the Rex art house , the Schumannhaus and the Evangelical Trinity Church.

The festival aims to reinforce the memory of Robert Schumann and bring the composer out of the shadow of Ludwig van Beethoven . In 2010, on the occasion of the 200th birthday of Robert Schumann, the Schumann Festival in Bonn has the motto Schumann meets Chopin , who was also born in 1810. The patrons of the anniversary festival are Krzysztof Meyer and Franz Willnauer , former director of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival .
