The Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium in the city of Bonn is a high school for boys and girls in Bonn's southern part of the city on Loëstrasse. It is attended by around 970 schoolchildren.

The school building was inaugurated in 1915 and was only slightly damaged in World War II. Today it is a listed building and is listed under the number A 1136 in Bonn's list of monuments. The historic main building was expanded in the 1960s with additions in the style of the time.

History and importance for girls' education

Today's Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium was founded in 1912 as the "Städtisches Lyzeum und Studienanstalt". After there were already several church high schools for girls in Bonn, the "Städtisches Lyzeum" was the first public school at which girls could obtain the higher education entrance qualification (Abitur). Previously, the Bonn city council had repeatedly rejected the demands of the citizens for the establishment of such a school.

The name after Clara Schumann took place when the school was resumed after the Second World War in November 1945. Since 1973 the Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium has been co-educational.

The Ilse Fröhlich room is a reminder of the Jewish schoolgirls who attended school in large numbers up until the National Socialist dictatorship.
