Emden naval base

The naval base Emden was a base of the Federal Navy in the city of Emden .

history

The Emden naval base was founded on January 1, 1960 as a branch of the Wilhelmshaven naval base command and on April 1, 1962, it was subordinated to the Borkum naval base command. He was responsible for supplying all commands and facilities belonging to the base area and all floating units calling at the base.

On October 1, 1986, the base became part of the new Emden naval base command, to which the Borkum base was subordinated as a branch. The Emden naval base command was subordinate to the North Sea Marine Section Command , which was renamed the West Marine Section Command on April 1, 1994. On March 31, 1997, the Emden naval base command was dissolved and the base closed.

Supported associations and units

No floating naval units were stationed at the base or in the Emden siting area. In contrast, there were a number of land units that were supported by the base, but were not under the command of the naval base. These included:
