Mario Mafai

Mario Mafai (* 12. February 1902 in Rome , † 31 March 1965 ) was an Italian painter of Expressionism .

At the end of the 1920s , together with Scipione, he was one of the pioneers of Italian Expressionism and co-founder of the Roman artist group Scuola romana (novecento) (sometimes also referred to as Scuola Via Cavour ), which saw itself as a counter-movement to the monumentalists of the so-called Novecento, who dominated the taste of the time . The artist was married to the painter Antonietta Raphael de Simon Mafai .
