Mario Renato Menéndez Rodríguez

Mario Renato Menéndez Rodríguez (born January 14, 1937 in Mérida ) is a Mexican journalist and publisher of Por Esto! . He was the first Mexican to interview Fidel Castro after the Cuban Revolution.

Mario Renato Menéndez Rodríguez is the son of Carlos R. Menéndez (1872–1961), who founded the Diario de Yucatán in 1925 .

The governor of Yucatán Bartolomé García Correa (1930–1933) had the siblings of Mario Renato Menéndez Rodríguez imprisoned in 1933. A son of Mario Renato Menéndez Rodríguez, Mario Renato Menéndez Cámara (1966–2013) was Contralor general des Por Esto! , one of the largest daily newspapers in the Yucatan. He died of a heart attack in the newspaper printing office.

Journalistic career

Menéndez Rodríguez did not agree with the political orientation of the Diario de Yucatán . He therefore moved to Mexico City , published essays on asymmetrical warfare and possibly met Lucio Cabañas Barrientos . With Cristina Pacheco, he formed part of the collective of Revista Sucesos and traveled to Colombia to Che Guevara to interview.

In February 1968 he founded Por que? censored by the governor . He was arrested on February 11, 1970. He was accused of having deposited a bomb at the headquarters of the Partido Acción Nacional (Mexico) .
