Marion Godau

Dr des Marion Godau (* 1962 in Berlin ) is a German design scientist and professor. It works mainly in the field of history of design and applied art .

life and work

Godau studied industrial design from 1981 to 1988 at the Berlin University of the Arts (HdK) and from 1988 to 1991 sociology at the Free University of Berlin . She then took part in socio-cultural research projects at the HdK Berlin from 1987 to 1995, z. B. on the cultural history of living in the 20th century and the lifestyle of skilled workers. 1990–2005 she worked employed and freelance for Berlin institutions, a. a. the International Design Center Berlin(IDZ) in the further training of designers, executives and art educators, as well as design, PR consultant and author. During this time she organized workshops, design conferences and developed PR concepts for, among others, FSB, IDZ Berlin, stilwerk, Verlag form, Wilhelm-Wagenfeld-Stiftung Bremen, Wilkhahn. In 2003 she co-founded the Berlin festival DESIGNMAI and was co-organizer until 2007. In 2007 Godau initiated the internet platform www.designwissen.net together with Johannes Kirschenmann . She is also the co-author of the designdidaktik.de internet platform.

From 1990 to 1999 Godau took on teaching positions in design at the Berlin University of the Arts, faculty of aesthetic education, art and cultural studies and in 2000/01 he represented the chair for design science and theory, design and media department at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences. From 2005 to 2012 she was a scientific and artistic assistant at the University of Vechta in the field of design education / creative work in the field of basic development, design theory and history. She received her doctorate from the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg with the thesis "Formgebung - Gestaltung - Industrial Design. A contribution to the genealogy of 'design' based on the 'design discourse' in the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1950s". In 2012, Godau was appointed professor for design, cultural and art history in the field of design at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences .

She lives near Potsdam.
