Marion Sunshine
Marion Sunshine ( Mary Tunstal Ijames ; born May 15, 1894 in Louisville / Kentucky , † January 25, 1963 in New York City ) was an American actress, songwriter and composer.
Sunshine began her stage career at the age of five in the melodrama Two Little Waifs and then appeared in vaudevilles. With the act Tempest and Sunshine with her sister Florence Tempest she was involved in the Ziegfeld Follies in 1907 and became one of the stars of this revue in the following years. She was also active as an actress on Broadway , at the Palace Theater and also in silent films. With her transfers of texts from Latin American songs ( El manisero - The Peanut Vendor ) she made a decisive contribution to the popularization of Cuban music in particular in the USA. She also composed some jazz standards like When I Get Low, I Get High .
