Marios Varvoglis
Marios Varvoglis ( Greek Μάριος Βάρβογλης ; * December 10, 1885 in Brussels , † July 30, 1967 in Athens ) was a Greek composer .
Varvoglis studied from 1904 in Paris at the Conservatoire and the Schola Cantorum with Xavier Leroux , Georges Caussade and Vincent d'Indy . During his stay in Paris, which lasted until 1920, he was friends with Maurice Ravel , Alfredo Casella , Edgar Varèse and the painter Amedeo Modigliani , who portrayed him as Le beau Marius .
From 1924 he was a teacher of composition and music history at the Athens Conservatory , which he led from 1937 together with Antiochos Evangelatos .
In addition to an opera , he composed several orchestral pieces, a suite for strings, a Greek Caprice for cello and orchestra, chamber music works, piano pieces, songs and drama music.
