María de la Soledad Casado Estupiñán (born October 11, 1956 in Madrid ) is a former Spanish triathlete who is now active as a sports official.

General

Marisol Casado studied at the Autonomous University of Madrid and received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 1979 . She studied sports management at the Complutense University in Madrid and obtained a Master of Business Administration degree .

Sports career and sports administration

Marisol Casado's sporting interest was broad. While still a student, she played field hockey, and she started out as a medium and long-distance runner. In 1978 she started as one of six women in the first Madrid marathon . In 1984 she took part in the first triathlon held in Spain in Guadalajara and won this competition.

In 1989 she was a founding member of the Spanish triathlon association "Federación Española de Triatlón", of which she has been vice-president since 2008. In the same year the International Triathlon Union was founded. From 2002 to 2009 she was President of the European Triathlon Union and since 2008 she has been President of the ITU.

She has been a member of the Spanish NOK since 2000. From 1992 to 1994 she was a member of the committee. She is also a member of the jury for the presentation of the Princess of Asturias Prize .

IOC membership

In 2010 Marisol Casado was elected an IOC member. She is a member of the commissions for public relations and social development as well as women's sports.

Awards

Marisol Casado was awarded the Real Order of Mérito Deportivo Español in gold and silver. She received the Olympic medal from the NOK of Spain.
