Markús Máni Michaelsson Maute (born June 17, 1981 in Berlin ) is a 1.91 m tall former Icelandic handball player .

Markús Máni Michaelsson Maute, who last played for the Icelandic club Valur Reykjavík (shirt number 8) and for the Icelandic national team (shirt number 8), was usually used in the left backcourt .

Markús Michaelsson was born in Berlin, but he began his handball career in Iceland with Valur Reykjavík . After two runners-up championships, he moved to HSG Düsseldorf in the German handball Bundesliga in 2004 . After initially performing well, he tore an inner ligament in his right knee in the game against TBV Lemgo and did not find his old form again. In 2006 he returned to his old club Valur Reykjavík, where he was captain and in 2007 he won the Icelandic championship. With the cup semifinals of the 2010/11 season, he played his last game of his career for Valur.

Markús Michaelsson has made 50 appearances for the Icelandic national team . Due to his torn inner ligament, he missed the 2006 European handball championship in Switzerland, but he took part in the 2007 men's handball world championship in Germany - as the only non-professional on the Icelandic team - and finished in 8th place.
