Mark Atkins (musician)
Mark Atkins (born January 3, 1957 in Albany WA ) is an Australian musician and artist. He is a descendant of the Yamaji tribe from Western Australia. Atkins is closely connected to his Aboriginal tradition , which is noticeable in the fact that each of his songs tells a story.
Life
Atkins started playing the didgeridoo when he was 10 years old and today, like Charlie McMahon , is one of the most famous players of this instrument. He is one of the few artists who manage to combine the didgeridoo with a wide variety of musical styles, quite contemporary, both as a soloist and in an ensemble.
Mark Atkins has also appeared as a storyteller, songwriter, composer, drummer, guitarist, painter and didgeridoo maker.
Atkins has had a long list of Australian and international appearances and has worked with various well-known artists such as: B. Jenny Morris , Dale Brown, James Morrison , Robert Plant and Jimmy Page ( Led Zeppelin ), Jimmy Barnes, SBS Youth Orchestra, Philip Glass and many others together. At the opening of the Paralympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , he was heard and seen in all media around the world.
In 1990 Mark Atkins won the Golden Didgeridoo Award.
