Mark Buckingham (born May 23, 1966 in Clevedon ) is a British comic artist. Buckingham made a name for himself primarily as a draftsman for the Sandman comic series .

Life and work

Buckingham began working as a draftsman for the British publisher 2000AD in the 1980s , for whom he designed the series Tyranny Rex written by John Smith . Due to disputes over his pay, he separated from 2000AD again.

Since the early 1990s Buckingham has worked as a draftsman for US publishers such as DC Comics and Marvel Comics . For DC Buckingham mainly designed series of the publisher's Vertigo imprint, which specializes in comics for adult readers. Buckingham worked for Vertigo for such series as Sandman , Hellblazer and Fables . Buckingham worked particularly often with the author Neil Gaiman - who figured as Buckingham's best man in 2006 - together.

Buckingham worked as an ink draftsman for Marvel Comics. He inked Chris Bachalo's preliminary pencil drawings for the Generation X and Ghost Rider 2099 series .
