Mark Dearey

Mark Dearey (born March 19, 1963 in County Louth ) is an Irish politician.

Dearey grew up in County Louth. Originally a secondary school teacher, he taught at Colaiste Eanna in Dublin in the early 1990s . In 1991 he moved the profession and set out as a producer of organic food independently . In 1999 there was another professional change with the purchase of The Spirit Store , a music venue and bar in Dundalk .

In 2004 Dearey was first elected to the Dundalk Town Council for the Green Party . Five years later he was re-elected in the same and was elected to Louth County Council . On February 23, 2010 he was nominated by Taoiseach as a Senator in the Seanad Éireann . Dearey took over the vacant seat of the resigned Senator Déirdre de Búrca . With his appointment as Senator, Dearey resigned his municipal mandates. In February 2011 he ran unsuccessfully in the elections for the 31st Dáil Éireann .

Dearey is married and has two children, a son and a daughter.
