Mark Kelly (* in Manchester ) is an English musician with Jamaican roots who lives in Vevey , western Switzerland .

Career

Mark Kelly, who has a Jamaican grandfather, grew up in his native Manchester . In his youth he was a bass guitarist and at the age of 17 he spent some time in Switzerland with his band. After living in London for some time and picking up the guitar and making his own music, he moved to French-speaking Switzerland in the early 2000s and settled in Montreux .

There he first tried his hand at rapper, but then became the singer and guitarist of the reggae combo Inna Crisis, founded in 2002 . The band, with up to eight members, soon made a name for itself. In 2005 they released their first album The Time Is Now , later that year they appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Reggae Boat Night and the following year they followed album number two What If .

In the mid-2000s Kelly got to know three Swiss musicians, with whom he founded the band The Passengers as a second project . It was a pop-rock band, but Kelly also incorporated reggae and soul into it. In 2007 the quartet released an EP, but an album planned for the following year did not materialize.

In 2016 Mark Kelly released his first solo album entitled I Am Who I Am . In the same year he also undertook the project The Shamanics together with the electronic musician Xewin, from which the album Shamanic emerged . At the beginning of February 2017 he was awarded the Swiss Music Award for Best Act Romandie .
