Markaryds IF was founded in 1924. For a long time the team played in the lower and middle division before they rose to the second division for the first time in 1984 as a season winner of Division 3 Skåne and successful promotion games against Linköpings FF . As a table ninth in the first year successful in the relegation battle, the club rose in 1986 as penultimate table together with Helsingborgs IF and Norrby IF back in the third division. With 16 wins in 26 games this season, the team repeated the season win and rose straight away. Playing permanently against relegation, the club stayed in the league until 1991. In the fall series, only two wins, so that the club behind Landskrona BoIS together with Falkenbergs FF finished a relegation rank.
After relegation, Markaryds IF initially played for promotion. In 1994 as third in the table behind IFK Malmö one point away from the promotion round, the crash followed in the following season as bottom of the table in the fourth division. The club then slipped into fifth division and, as an elevator team, moved between fourth and fifth division after the turn of the millennium.
