The Markham Bay is a 13-km wide bay on the east coast of the West Antarctic James Ross Island . It lies between Ekelöf Point and Hamilton Point .
Its discoverer is probably the British polar explorer James Clark Ross , who explored this area during his Antarctic expedition (1839-1843) between 1842 and 1843. The Swedish polar explorer Otto Nordenskjöld mapped it during the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903) and named it after the British geographer and explorer Clements Markham (1830–1916), then President of the Royal Geographical Society .
