Administratively it is assigned to the canton of Pont-Hébert (until 2015: canton of Saint-Lô-Ouest ) and the arrondissement of Saint-Lô . The inhabitants are called Mesnil-Rouxelinais .

Le Mesnil-Rouxelin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Meauffe in the north and north-west, Villiers-Fossard in the north and north-east, La Luzerne in the east, Saint-Lô in the south and Saint-Georges-Montcocq in the west.
