Pont-Hébert is a French commune with 1,987 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy . It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Lô and the canton of Pont-Hébert (until 2015: canton of Saint-Jean-de-Daye ).

geography

Pont-Hébert is about ten kilometers northwest of Saint-Lô . The river Vire limits the community to the east, the Terrette to the west. Neighboring municipalities of Pont-Hébert are Le Dézert in the north and north-west, Cavigny in the north, La Meauffe in the east and north-east, Rampan in the south-east, Thèreval with Hébécrevon in the south, Amigny in the west and south-west and Le Hommet-d'Arthenay in the west and north-west .

The national route 174 runs through the municipality . The station is on the Lison – Lamballe railway line .

history

Pont-Hébert was formed in 1836 from the previous communities Bahais , Esglandes and Le Mesnil-Durand .

On January 1, 2018, the municipalities of Le Hommet-d'Arthenay and Pont-Hébert were merged to form Commune nouvelle Pont-Hébert. The two old parishes continue to exist as Commune déléguée within the new parish. The Commune déléguée Pont-Hébert has 1,632 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
