history

Shortly after the community was liberated in World War II , the US Air Army's 840th Engineer Battalion built an Advanced Landing Ground . The airfield was ready in mid-August. The airfield served as the base for Republic P-47 aircraft of the 50th Flight Squadron . When Paris was liberated, the squadron was relocated to Orly near Paris.

Personalities

The American General Theodore Roosevelt Jr. died of a heart attack in the rectory that had become his headquarters. On July 12, 1944, he was busy repelling the harsh German attacks. He is buried in the American cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer .
