Town Hall ( Hôtel de ville )

Carentan-les-Marais (until December 2018 Carentan les Marais ) is a French municipality with 10,118 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy . It belongs to the canton of Carentan and the arrondissement of Saint-Lô .

It was created as Commune nouvelle with effect from January 1, 2016 by merging the previous municipalities of Angoville-au-Plain , Carentan , Houesville and Saint-Côme-du-Mont . With effect from January 1, 2017, Brévands , Saint-Pellerin and Les Veys were incorporated. On January 1, 2019, further municipalities were incorporated after Carentan-les-Marais. They were Brucheville , Catz , Montmartin-en-Graignes , Saint-Hilaire-Petitville and Vierville .

Geography, infrastructure

Neighboring municipalities are Liesville-sur-Douve in the northwest, Blosville and Hiesville in the north, Osmanville in the east and northeast, Isigny-sur-Mer in the East, Saint-Fromond and Saint-Jean-de-Daye in the southeast, Graignes-Mesnil-Angot and Saint-André-de-Bohon in the south and Terre-et-Marais and Méautis in the south-west.

In the district of Carentan there is a train station on the Paris – Cherbourg line . There used to be a sideline to Carteret .

Carentan-les-Marais is connected to the network of national roads ( Route nationale 13 and Route nationale 174 ).
