Houesville is a town and commune Déléguée in the French commune of Carentan-les-Marais with 287 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Angoville-au-Plain , Carentan , Houesville and Saint-Côme-du-Mont were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Carentan-les-Marais. The municipality of Houesville belonged to the arrondissement of Saint-Lô and the canton of Carentan .

geography

Houesville is located 10.7 kilometers southwest of Utah Beach between Blosville in the north and Saint-Côme-du-Mont in the southeast 6.4 kilometers northwest of Carentan on the Cotentin Peninsula in the Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin Regional Nature Park on the N13 . The Douve flows through the area.

Voie de la Liberté : Landmark in Houesville

The castle of le Vivier was built in the 18th century and pavilions were added in the 19th century . It is privately owned.

The Saint-Gilles church is dedicated to St. Egidius (640-720). It belongs to the diocese of Coutances and was built in the 15th century. The western entrance portal was redesigned in 1791, the roof vault was renewed around 1879. In the church there is an altar , antependium and tabernacle from the 18th and 19th centuries, classified as a monument historique in 1978 as a group . An old Protestant cemetery from the time of the Huguenot Wars (1562–1598) is located by the church .

The "Path of Freedom" ( Voie de la Liberté ), which is marked with a series of landmarks, runs through Houesville . It runs from Sainte-Mère-Église via Utah Beach to Bastogne in Belgium and commemorates the liberation of France, Luxembourg and Belgium through the Allied invasion of Normandy at the end of the Second World War . It follows the advance of General George S. Patton and the 3rd US Army and is over 1,000 kilometers long.

The main occupations are the breeding of domestic cattle and domestic horses.
