Markies van Heusden (German Marquis von Heusden ) is a hereditary Dutch nobility title . The title refers to the fortress town of Heusden on the Maas in North Brabant .

Award

The title was bestowed by royal decree of July 8, 1815, No. 14, by King William I to the British Ambassador to the Netherlands, Richard Le Poer Trench, 2nd Earl of Clancarty . He had also participated in the agreement on the border of the Netherlands at the Congress of Vienna .

The award of this title was the last award of a Dutch nobility title to a non-Dutch person. Since 1994, the Dutch monarch has been expressly forbidden from conferring titles of nobility on foreigners.

He led the Irish nobility titles of 2nd Earl of Clancarty , 2nd Viscount Dunlo and 2nd Baron Kilconnel since 1805 . On August 4, 1815 and December 8, 1823, he was also awarded the British nobility titles of 1st Baron Trench and 1st Viscount Clancarty .

Today's owner of all these titles has been Nicholas Le Poer Trench as 8th Markies van Heusden since 1995 .
