Historical view of the dam |
The Marklissa Dam (also Queistalsperre, Polish Zapora Leśniańska or Jezioro Leśniańskie ) was built from 1901 to 1907 above Lauban ( Lubań ) and east of Marklissa ( Leśna ) in Lower Silesia in what is now the Polish part of Upper Lusatia for flood protection and hydropower generation .
Marklissa was often threatened by floods until the dam was built .
The dammed river is the Queis (Kwisa). The dam was put into operation on July 15, 1905.
The power plant
According to the information on the board at the dam, there are six turbines with a total output of 2.61 MW (five times 515 plus one 35 kW). The turbines are still the original and were supplied by JM Voith in 1907 . The generators came from the Siemens-Schuckert works in Berlin.
The dam
The 45 m high dam made of quarry stone and built in gneiss is a typical wall based on the Intze principle . 150,000 bags of cement, 20,000 m³ of sand, 2,400 m³ of lime and 460 tons of steel were used. 32 tons of dynamite were also used. Most of the construction workers came from Italy and Tyrol. The reservoir was lowered in May 2003 due to renovation work on the dam. The dam was completely reconstructed during this time. The width of the wall was possibly increased from 6 m to 8 m.
Surroundings
The end of the traffic jam is below the Neidburg ruins. The Czocha Castle is located nearby .
The dams are to the east of the Marklissa dam:
- Goldentraum dam (built 1919 to 1924)
- Bobertalsperre am Bober (Mauertalsperre) near Hirschberg (built 1904 to 1911)
