Marko Barthel

Marko Barthel (born July 19, 1977 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) is a German enduro athlete .

life and work

Marko Barthel's sporting career began at the age of 5. He made his first attempts to drive with a Simson SR1 . He has driven other Simson models extensively, including the Simson SR2 , Simson KR50 , and Simson S50 . He gained his first motocross racing experience with the Simson S51 . In 1994 he started enduro racing and was runner-up in the German Enduro Cup on Moto TM 125 cm³ / 2 stroke in the first year. In 1995 he was also German Enduro Cup runner-up on a Husqvarna 125 cm 3 /2-stroke. In 1996 Barthel switched to the highest license class A / I and was able to gain first experience in international races. He took part in his first international six-day race in 1996 in Hämeenlinna in Finland. He became the best German driver and German champion in 1997. He was able to achieve further successes in the following years:

  • 1998: 3rd place German Championship (best German)
  • 1999: 2nd place European Championship Italy
  • 2000: German runner-up, best German driver of all classes
  • 2001: 6th place World Cup Spain and Portugal, 1st place EM France
  • 2002: 3rd place European Championship, 3rd place DM
  • 2003: Vice European Champion with the BvZ team
  • Six Days (ISDE) finished seven times , 2 × silver medals, 5 × gold medals
  • At the Erzberg Rodeo he was twice in the top ten.

Marko Barthel ended his sporting career in 2004 and has since worked for KTM Motor-Fahrzeugbau KG as a licensed off-road trainer and tour guide across Europe. He has also worked as a trainer and tour guide for Dirk von Zitzewitz's MotoCross & Enduro School and for Yoshimoto Tours.
