The Erzberg Rodeo is a year since 1995. held each May or June Enduro - motorcycle racing on Erzberg in Eisenerz (Styria) in Austria and the largest of its kind in Europe.

The organizer of the race will not pay any entry or prize money. If the top drivers receive an entry fee of up to 50,000 dollars at comparable events, they take part here for free. Karl Katoch is the organizer of this international event and is also considered to be the author.

Since 2008 starters from over 40 nations are at the start. For the structurally weak region, the ErzbergRodeo is a growing economic factor that is supported not only by local politics, but also by the state of Styria. In 2020 the event was canceled.

structure

The four-day event consists of the following individual races:

  • Thursday: 2- cylinder king class , two runs on the prologue course (held for the first time in 2005, around 60 starters).
Since 2008, instead of the premier class, the Endurocross competition has been held on Thursday and the 2-cylinder machines start in the desert bomber class as part of the normal Iron Road Prologue .
As part of Endurocross, some of the world's best motocross riders perform spectacular stunts and breakneck jumps. Another side event, the so-called Rocket Ride, has been taking place since 2009 as part of this Thursday program. In this steep slope race, which is held on one of the starting slopes of the Hare Scramble, 300 riders start to conquer the 3-part slope in the best time. The top 48 drivers of the qualification then compete in a co-system in groups of 6 drivers each, of which the top 3 qualify for the next round until the Rocket Ride Champion is determined at the end.
  • Friday and Saturday: one run each of the Iron Road Prologue on an approx. 13 km long gravel route to the vicinity of the summit. The prologue is also the qualification for Sunday. Several classes are started here: desert bombers (multi-cylinder enduros), street motorcycles, scooters and mopeds, women's class, up to 2004 standard singles (street-legal single-cylinder enduros) and since 2004 quads . The starting field is limited to 1500 participants. The starters take to the track every 20 to 40 seconds between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: the highlight is the Red Bull Hare Scramble . The best 500 of the prologue are allowed to start on Sunday. The route is changed every year. The winners usually need between one and a half and two hours for the approximately 35 km long route. Of the 500 starters, seldom more than 30 make it to the finish line within the four-hour race.
