description

In Coldingham there was a previous cross before the current market cross was erected. Today's market cross was donated in 1815 by Alexander Home, 10th Earl of Home . It is not known whether it is on the same point as the older cross. The cream-colored sandstone structure rests on a three-tier round pedestal. The substructure forms a base with a square floor plan and a concluding, grooved cornice . While there is an inscription on the north side, the east side shows the year of construction. A round shaft with a final capital rests on it . The cross continues on the capital with a cuboid with sundials on three sides and the coat of arms of the Earls of Home on one side . The building closes on the cuboid with an urn.
