The market cross

The market cross (French: Croix du marché ) is located at the historic market hall of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in France . The cross has been registered as a monument historique since 1926 .

description

The market cross was created during the Gothic period and is dated to the 14th century by the French monuments administration, while a notice board on site indicates the 16th century as the time of origin. The cross was originally located at the old cemetery and was moved to the market hall in 1818.

The cross is a disc-shaped stele that was carved from a stone and is reminiscent of comparable representations from the Basque Country . On the obverse it shows Christ on the cross between the Virgin and Saint John on the disc . On the back there is a depiction of the crowned virgin with the baby Jesus, who also holds an open book. At their side are St. Anthony and St. Eligius .
