The Fraserburgh Market Cross is a market cross in the small Scottish town of Fraserburgh in the Aberdeenshire Council Area . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

A 1613 decree allowed the Burgh of Barony Fraserburgh to erect a market cross. Its current market cross was made in 1736. It was initially on the east side of Saltoun Square . This original location can no longer be determined today. In 1858 the market cross was moved to its current location in the middle of the square. At this point only his shaft was there.

The market cross of Fraserburgh stands in the middle of Saltoun Square in the historic center of the small town. It rests on a three-tiered, hexagonal plinth that was erected when it was moved in the middle of the 19th century. Its cross-shaped pedestal is made of granite and was also made during this period. The oval shaft of the market cross rises from the pedestal with a height of around 3.7 meters. He bears the British coat of arms. The coat of arms of the Frasers of Philorth rests on the shaft .
