Markus Kägi (politician)

Markus Kägi (born February 25, 1954 ) is a Swiss politician and member of the Swiss People's Party .

Markus Kägi began his political career in 1978 in the audit committee of the Zurich municipality of Niederglatt , which he chaired for six years. From 1986 he was a local councilor. In 1991 he was elected to the Cantonal Council of the Canton of Zurich , which he chaired during the 1995/96 term. From 1996 to 2007 he was ombudsman of the canton and from 2005 to 2007 he was also president of the European ombudsman institute. In 2007 he was elected to the Zurich government council, where he headed the building management until 2019. Markus Kägi was President of the Government Council in 2012/2013 and 2017/2018.

In 1973 Kägi completed his apprenticeship in a notary, land registry and bankruptcy office. He then studied at the law faculty of the University of Zurich and obtained the Zurich notary's license in 1983. From 1980 to 1996 he was a deputy notary in Zurich- Riesbach .

Markus Kägi is married, has two children and lives in Niederglatt. Since 1997 he has been President of the Heimatkunde Society in the Zürcher Unterland .
