Markus Kästner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Markus Kästner (born February 8, 1980 in Rochlitz ) is a German engineer , scientist and university professor in the field of applied mechanics . Among other things, he researches the cross-scale modeling of the material behavior of heterogeneous materials , the further development and application of numerical calculation methods and the experimental characterization and modeling of complex material behavior.

Since 2016 he has held the Chair for Computational and Experimental Solid Mechanics and acting head of the working group operational stability at the Technical University of Dresden .

Life

Markus Kästner studied applied mechanics at the mechanical engineering faculty of the TU Dresden from 2001 to 2006 . After completing his studies, he worked there as a research assistant at the Institute for Solid Mechanics, Professorship for Nonlinear Solid Mechanics. In 2010, he was at the TU Dresden on Multi-scale modeling and simulation of the mechanical behavior of textile-reinforced polypropylene using the XFEM doctorate . He completed his habilitation in December 2015 with the topic Advanced Numerical Modeling of Discontinuities in Coupled Boundary Value Problems . In autumn 2016 he was appointed professor at the Technical University of Dresden to succeed Volker Ulbricht .

Trivia

In Kästner's youth, due to the second oil price crisis, the Deutsche Reichsbahn still used numerous steam locomotives around the Rochlitz railway junction , such as the 50 series. These inspired him for the railroad, steam locomotives and train photography.
