Markus Roth (physicist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Markus Roth (* 1965 in Darmstadt ) is a German physicist. He is a physics professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt .

Life

Markus Roth was born in Darmstadt in 1965. He is professor for laser and plasma physics at the Institute for Nuclear Physics at TU Darmstadt.

Scientific work

Roth deals with laser - ion and laser neutron -Teilchenbeschleunigung and generation of high energy densities with lasers. He is researching the possibilities of nuclear fusion . He also develops targets for particle accelerators and studies the energy loss in plasmas .

Roth gives lectures on the physics of Star Trek or on "Physics in the 21st Century - How Science Fiction Affects Our Reality".

Awards

In 2012, Roth was awarded the LASNCE Rosen Scholar Fellowship of the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE). The award is given for Roth's work in the field of “particle acceleration with ultra-intensive lasers, the generation of high energy densities in matter with lasers, fusion research and the connection between laser and plasma physics and nuclear physics” and is worth 70,000 dollars. In 2013, Roth became a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) .
