Markus Schäfer (Manager)

Markus Schäfer (born May 11, 1965 in Weidenau , Siegen-Wittgenstein district ) is a German manager at the automobile manufacturer Daimler AG .

Life

Markus Schäfer grew up in Niederlaasphe and completed his Abitur at the municipal high school in Bad Laasphe . In 1990 he graduated from the Technical University of Darmstadt with a degree in mechanical engineering and started his career at what was then Daimler-Benz AG. Among other things, he was plant manager of an assembly plant in Cairo, Egypt, and CEO for Mercedes-Benz US in Tuscaloosa (USA). In 2014 he became the Board Member for Production and Purchasing at Daimler AG.

He has been a member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG since 2019 and is Head of Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development. Since June 1, 2019, he has also been responsible for global purchasing at Mercedes-Benz Cars.

In July 2019 he became chairman of the supervisory board of Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd. who controls the Mercedes AMG F1 Team in Formula 1 . He succeeds Niki Lauda .
