Markus Verbeet

Markus Verbeet (born November 17, 1974 in Kleve ) is a German lawyer and journalist.

Verbeet graduated from the Catholic journalism school "Institute for the Promotion of Young Journalists". During his studies he worked for the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Bayerischer Rundfunk and the Philadelphia Inquirer, among others . He studied law and political science in Bonn, Leipzig, Paris and Munich. In 2003 he received his doctorate in law from the University of Mannheim. In 2003 his dissertation was awarded the “Prize for Science and Language” by the University of Mannheim.

Since then he has been working for the news magazine Der Spiegel . Among other things, he was a correspondent in Brussels and an editor for the education sector. In 2012 he became deputy head of the Germany department and has been its head since 2015. Among other things, he published the bestseller “How good is your general education?”. At times he held a teaching position for practical skills at the University of St. Gallen .
